It’s another beautiful, warm spring day in Milano. Today, I ventured to the Salone del Mobile at the Fiera Milano Rho fairground, a venue stretching nearly a kilometre long, with over 2,000 brands. But first: coffee.
“All You Have Ever Wanted To Know About Food Design” In Six Performances, a showcase investigating the future of food created with global food magazines, artists, designers and chefs.
This year, EuroCucina 2024 took centre stage, celebrating the heart of the home—kitchens. The theme, “the feeling of welcome, care, and fellowship,” perfectly encapsulated the essence of this year’s kitchen innovations.
My first stop was the Very Simple: Kitchen, where their nomadic kitchens stole the show. The Wall Cabinets, designed by Richard Ceccanti, and the Form Us With Love accessories were simple yet stunning. Smeg’s ISOLA range, crafted by Studio Stefano Boeri Interiors, was a delightful mix of elegance and functionality, with vibrant colours that redefined kitchen aesthetics.
Outerra’s outdoor kitchen solutions were a revelation, especially the modular Dafne system, featuring a top made from Murano glass processing waste. The environmental consciousness behind these designs was remarkable. Vipp’s sleek V3 Kitchen, debuting at Salone del Mobile, epitomized Danish minimalism, while Poliform’s Land kitchen offered a modular, outdoor culinary experience. With its hyper-realistic nature-inspired decor, Cesar’s Utopian Garden was a visual feast.
Miele’s 1,000-square-meter stand was an immersive journey into digital innovation, and Elica’s NikolaTesla collection, showcased under dramatic lighting, combined visual appeal with functionality. This year’s theme, “Materia Natura,” emphasized the harmony between material and nature, guiding the future of kitchen design.
The standout moment was the “All You Have Ever Wanted to Know About Food Design in Six Performances” exhibit. Sophia Roe’s “Through the bread-making process” was a profound exploration of how diverse elements can unite to form a whole, reflecting the spirit of togetherness in kitchen design.
EuroCucina 2024 beautifully merged innovation with sustainability, offering a glimpse into the kitchens of tomorrow. From minimalist designs to vibrant outdoor solutions, this year’s exhibition underscored the evolving role of the kitchen as a space for connection and creativity.
