As I arrived in Milan, the city was bathed in the warm embrace of Spring, setting the stage for the much-anticipated Milan Design Week 2024. My home for the next week, an Airbnb close to Chinatown, was a delightful fusion of eclectic and modern design.
My Airbnb for the week, with its expansive bookshelf, felt like a little personal haven away from the craziness of Milan Design Week.
Repping Melbourne’s Hayle & Shine t-shirt, I set out with comfy shoes, layers (Melbournians know the drill), and a portable charger. Pro tip: Plan your itinerary well—Milan Design Week is vast, and every minute counts!
My first stop was the House of Switzerland by Pro Helvetia and Presence Switzerland, a showcase of Swiss innovation that aimed to dazzle the global audience with the future and dynamism of Swiss design. I then visited Electrolux’s hub, where their new EcoLine range, a stunning blend of design and sustainability, left me in awe. A special visit to the Nicolas Schuybroek installation at Aesop felt like a familiar slice of home, radiating minimalism and elegance.
Next, Porche’s Pattern of Dreams installation was a stunning mix of technology and artistry, while Samsung’s exhibit explored the balance between technology and humanity, a thought-provoking experience. Poggenpol’s Gravity of Light captivated me with its play of light and shadow, creating an immersive, almost ethereal atmosphere, truly re-creating kitchen design as we know it.
After being blown away by the Moooi exhibit and their incredible collaboration with Every Human on a personalised home scent, I had the pleasure of meeting with the amazing Kribashini from Build Play Live. Together, we delved into the futuristic wonder of Poesis Materiae by Zaha Hadid Design for Iris Ceramica Group – a mind-blowing fusion of cutting-edge design and material innovation. And, of course, no visit to Milan is complete without a stop at the awe-inspiring Duomo di Milano, which we explored before treating ourselves to a delightful dinner of pizza nearby.
From Milan’s charming streets to the cutting-edge designs, Milan Design Week 2024 has already been a sensory delight. I can’t wait to continue exploring this design wonderland in the days to come!
