Our clients, a young professional family residing in Yarraville, Victoria, approached us to undertake a renovation and extension project for their beloved property, affectionately known as the “Deleware House.” Their goal was to create a space that would evolve with their growing family, meeting both their practical and aspirational needs while maintaining a deep sense of home.
The original property, while functional in parts, featured a dated and inefficient layout. The spaces were fragmented and lacked the fluidity needed for a growing family. Storage was limited, natural light was underutilised, and the indoor-outdoor flow was almost non-existent.
The family’s vision was clear: a home that balances form and function, offering spaciousness and versatility to support their lifestyle. The new design needed to prioritise multi-use spaces for working from home while also creating an inviting atmosphere for hosting friends and family. By blending practicality with thoughtful design, we aimed to create a house that would serve as both a sanctuary and a vibrant hub for social connection.
The renovation was an opportunity to reimagine the entire floorplan, aligning it with the family’s evolving needs and lifestyle. The Deleware House renovation was a collaboration with Archiscale and Elevate Building Group, combining thoughtful architecture and expert craftsmanship with our interior design expertise. Inspired by the calming simplicity of the modern Japandi design style, we focused on creating a harmonious blend of Scandinavian functionality and Japanese minimalism.
Styling the interiors involved selecting natural materials like timber, stone, and linen, which aligned with the Japandi aesthetic. Clean lines, neutral tones, and tactile textures created a sense of calm while reflecting the family’s modern tastes. Custom-built storage solutions ensured that functionality never compromised style.
The integration of natural light, multi-use spaces, and an expansive outdoor alfresco area were pivotal in making the Deleware House a true family haven. The open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area became the heart of the home, fostering connection while allowing flexibility for both everyday life and entertaining. With a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow, the family now has a space to relax, work, and host with ease, all while maintaining a genuine sense of home.
